VERMILLION LIT

DIVINE DISORDER SEEKS WITNESS!

DISORDER

Issue 1

JULY 2025

A note from the editor

I set up Vermillion Lit as a way to remain connected to other creatives after graduating from my undergraduate degree. I enlisted the help of Ella as my co-EIC, as we both have a particular taste when it comes to poetry, prose, and art; I especially found it hard to find contemporary poetry and prose that perfectly exemplified my desired style as a reader.

And so, Vermillion Lit serves as a way for us to amplify artistic voices that are a little risky and, otherwise, may be deemed too revealing, too explicit, and too much.

For our inaugural issue, we were hopeful that anyone would take an interest in our little corner of chaos. "Let's aim for ten," we said. "Ten submissions. Then, we can pick a few that really align with our style."

Little did we know that Issue
1 would receive over 200 submissions from more than 100 contributors. The entire Vermillion Editorial team is stunned by the sheer talent we

have had the pleasure of reading, and it has been incredibly difficult to narrow the collection down to a digestible amount that would satisfy our readers, who also endeavour to find works that embody their literary desires.

We want to thank everyone who took the time to submit their work. This is only the start for Vermillion Lit. We have many plans writhing back here, so join our communion if you haven't already to keep up with current opportunities and submissions.

For now, witness our divine disorder and baptise in the chaos.

Cover Art

Rae Mosley

Nysa Chaturvedi

This month we are featuring poems from Rae Mosley such as 'I am the forest, I am the fire', 'a timeline of girlhood', and 'The Difference Between Girls and Gods', along with her multimedia artwork and a Q&A.

This month's cover art is by fifteen year-old artist and writer, Nysa Chaturvedi. Nysa's piece, 'Alcestis', perfectly captures Vermillion Lit's style, and we are so grateful to be able to feature the piece on the cover of Issue 1.
