WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
⍟ Art/Creative Nonfiction/Prose/Poetry/Essays. Work that is raw, visceral, and effectively utilises language. We value pieces that have a clear voice and intention. Experimental pieces are very welcome.
⍟ We strongly encourage submissions from underrepresented voices, especially those of BIPOC, Queer, Trans, women, and disabled writers.
WHAT WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR
⍟ We do not accept work containing sexist, racist, homophobic, or ableist content.
⍟ We are not the right home for writing that perpetuates harmful stereotypes, generalisations, or bitterness towards any group.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
⍟ Simultaneous submissions are encouraged. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please notify us immediately via email.
⍟ Previously published work will not be considered.
⍟ We reserve the right to edit submissions for clarity and according to the rules of our style guide.
⍟ Please submit your work in Times New Roman, 12-point font.
⍟ Attach all your work in a single .DOC, .DOCX, or PDF file renamed with your name and the form you are submitting.
Example: EMMA BROWN_PROSE.docx
⍟ Email your submission to vermillionlitmag@gmail.com with the subject line corresponding to your submission type: POETRY/PROSE/CNF/ESSAY/ARTWORK SUBMISSION.
⍟ Feel free to include a third-person bio (max 75 words) and the name you wish to be published under in the body of your email.
GENRE-SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
POETRY
⍟ Submit up to four poems.
⍟ We prefer shorter poems, but a maximum of 2 pages, please.
PROSE, CREATIVE NONFICTION & ESSAYS
⍟ Submit up to two original pieces.
⍟ Individual pieces should not exceed 2,000 words.
⍟ Underline the title of each piece.
ARTWORK
⍟ Files should be high-quality JPEG or PNG images.
⍟ Please include the following details in your submission email:
Artist name
Title of work
Medium (e.g., oil on canvas, digital illustration)
PAYMENT
Currently, we do not pay contributors. Vermillion Lit is volunteer-run alongside other commitments. We hope to offer payments in the future, but for now, we can publish and help promote your work.
